Snapple Tri Team is Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness
Recently, some of our favorites at the Snapple Tri Team had some bad news come their way. Snapple teammate Lucas McCollum’s wife Paula, was diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 2012. Snapple teammate Mindy Ko recounts the act of encouragement and support for them from the entire Snapple Team. We’re so happy to be a part of this amazing show of kindness.
It’s amazing how powerful team camaraderie can be. What started as an email discussion quickly spurred ideas amongst the Snapple Pro team on how best to show our support for Paula and Lucas McCollum.
Kudos to Snapple Pro triathlete Greg Close for the initial idea of pink hats to show our support for Paula’s breast cancer fight, and a loud shout-out to our sponsor SweatVac for coordinating our hat and visor orders!
The hats have been a HUGE hit. They have certainly become our team’s “thing” this season. People compliment us on them at every race. When I did Eagleman earlier this month I actually passed a girl in my age group WEARING THE PINK HAT!!
I made a passing comment to her about the hat, and then after the race, I asked how she got it, and it turned out that she is one of Lucas’s friends. What a small world!
So this year, you’ll see a number of Snapple triathletes and supporters wearing pink and white Snapple hats. It’s a show of support as Paula fights through 12 weeks of chemo and 5 years of hormone therapy.
To Paula and Lucas McCollum, we’re all cheering for you to beat this battle!
